I have worked in international schools for over 30 years and have seen many exciting changes within the sector making huge impacts on teaching and learning. However, one thing that has particularly saddened me over the years is the lack of drama now seen in classrooms. Infact, it is rare to even see a drama teacher in primary schools at all. I believe that after coming through a pandemic and witnessing the impact of isolation on our young learners, the need for drama in our lessons should be even more highlighted yet sadly I am not seeing that in classrooms at all. I have been a teacher, a teacher trainer and a head teacher in schools around the world but I am now returning to my passion of expressive arts in the classroom(my first degree subject) to support the well being of both staff and our young learners. I believe that we need to highlight the importance of this forgotten subject and bring our lessons back to life once again.
