ADEC appoints nearly 900 new teachers for 2017-18

The Abu Dhabi Education Council has recruited 896 new teachers, including 302 Emirati teachers, for its schools in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra.

At an orientation session, new teachers were informed of the curriculum applied in Abu Dhabi schools, and were given an overview of ADEC mission, human resources services and policies, as well as educational programmes and initiatives.

The new hires were also briefed on ADEC's training and professional development programs as well as the teacher evaluation process and criteria, and were introduced to the UAE's culture and traditions.

ADEC director general Dr Ali Al Nuaimi said: "We are looking to boost the loyalty of our future generations who will lead the progress in their country with honour and pride. To achieve this, we need new and innovative ideas to enrich and develop education, and our new teachers are the new spirit of the education system. We count on teachers to achieve a great leap in education and address challenges as they are our key players in the overall development, and with their efforts I am sure better learning outcomes will be achieved."

Speaking at the event, Al Nuaimi also indicated that teachers should be creative and able to apply advanced pedagogies in order to meet the country's National Agenda goals.

"Our leaders are keen to invest in teachers and provide them with the tools and skills needed to succeed in performing their duties. ADEC's teachers should excel in teaching, be creative and innovative, enhance education and promote values of loyalty and citizenship among students," he said.

ADEC's recruitment and employment criteria are based on the competencies of the candidates and school needs. Among these criteria's are relevance of teacher's majors, educational skills, IT skills, proficiency in English and others.
