GESS and GEF strengthen UAE's aspirations as region's education hub

Middle East's biggest education exhibition and conference begin next week The UAE is pushing its bid as the region's premier education hub when it hosts the seventh edition of the Gulf Educational Supplies and Solutions (GESS) and the Global Education Forum (GEF) scheduled on March 4-6, 2014 at the Dubai World Centre.

Organised under the patronage of HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and supported by His Excellency Humaid Moh'd Al Qutami, Minister of Education for the United Arab Emirates, GESS and GEF have for the last six years been instrumental in highlighting education issues and opportunities, and have provided an excellent platform for connecting key decision makers with world-class providers of educational supplies and solutions.
 
This year, more than 300 local and international companies are showcasing the very latest educational products and solutions that could help improve the quality of teaching and learning experience in classrooms throughout the Gulf region.
 
Addressing delegates at the conference are some of the world's leading education experts, who will be sharing their invaluable expertise and insights on how schools and other education institutions throughout the Gulf could address some of the most pressing challenges confronting educators and decision-makers including early childhood and special needs education, enhancing classroom learning environments, improving teaching effectiveness, language learning, as well as helping the exploding Arab youth population acquire employable skills.
 
H.E. Humaid Mohammed Obeid Al Qutami, Minister of Education, said: "GEF and its accompanying exhibition, GESS, represent an important opportunity to review the country's successful experiences in education and the advancements that have been achieved in smart learning, using technology in teaching and paving the way for digital schools. This forms part of concerted initiatives aimed at achieving global competitiveness, the framework of the strategic target of the UAE's Vision 2021, by becoming the leader in teaching, education and providing high quality of educational services for our children."
 
The Ministry of Education has endeavored to attract and implement best educational practices from within the country and from aboard--throwing the spotlight on the world's latest educational and learning technologies, inventions and developed teaching solutions. We offer all of these to the thousand of educators, specialists and also for those interested in starting a career in the teaching sector, in one platform that contains the summary of successful education experiences and creative ideas that can be useful to the 7,500 participants of this forum, which are composed of teachers, principals and parents," Al Qutami added.

Germany, China, Korea and the United Kingdom; as well as new ones from the US and Finland who will both have country pavilions for the first time at the exhibition.
 
Sharief Fahmy, CEO, F&E Group, also announced several new milestones for this year's show that will appeal to and benefit educators. "GESS and GEF have obtained CPD accreditation, which means teachers who will be attending will gain CPD credits which they can use for professional advancement. We are also offering for the first time Research for Learning sessions, where educators stand to benefit from learning how to transform evidence-based research into realistic classroom practice." Fahmy explained.
 
The course aims to identify classroom interventions that have the biggest effect, give practical examples of how each one can be delivered, offer tried and tested strategies that really work, and showcase how to actually implement the best interventions.
 
The Minister also lauded the efforts of F&E for their efforts to host and organize the forum and the exhibition. He also cited the important role and support extended by the sponsors like Emirates Transportation (Platinum sponsor) and the Islamic Bank of Sharjah (Silver sponsor).

Emirates Transport transports about 210 thousand students daily, to 700 public and private schools throughout the state. Our 4,000 school buses, comprising 300 thousand seats, are operated via a total of 3,880 drivers. The corporation organises a variety awareness programmes and community initiatives in order to promote the dissemination of a culture of transport safety among students and their parents.
