More than half of Dubai’s local students attend private schools

A total of 110 new schools with the capacity to handle 130,000 students will have to be built in Dubai to meet forecast demand in 2020, the MEED Destination Dubai 2020 conference was told this afternoon.

All the new schools will have to be built and run by the private sector, the conference was told by Kalthoom Al Balooshi, director of institutional development at Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA).

At present, in Dubai 56 per cent of emirati students attend private school, and in total, 89 per cent of in Dubai are privately-educated.
