“To make teaching and other careers in the education field more attractive to Emiratis, we will offer a 25 to 35 per cent increase in salaries and more benefits for Emirati employees in public schools,” said ADEC director-general Dr Mugheer Al Khaili.

Education authorities made the announcement at a press conference yesterday. They said there would also be a new organisational structure for the capital’s public schools.

Job descriptions and roles for supervisors, cluster managers and teachers have been reviewed and new roles added so more staff are appointed to children with special needs.

ADEC said the new scheme aimed to ensure a fair and transparent standard of pay, and competitive benefits that reward their performance and recognise that staff are providing an excellent service to students Salama Al Amimi, executive director of organisational development and excellence at ADEC, said: “The new salary structure has been initiated to raise the quality of education and increase the participation of Emiratis, while promoting a comprehensive vision to develop human resources and the status of teaching in schools.”

Al Khaili added: “Education is a strategic priority for the emirate that aims to enhance the educational structure while enabling it to perform a vital role in development.”

He noted that the structure ensures better application of education plans to improve standards for students.
