UAE education group expands into Oman
A UAE education group is foraying into Oman and plans to start British curriculum schools in the capital city of Muscat.
Al Najah Education, the owner of Horizon English School - an outstanding British curriculum school in Dubai - is entering Oman in partnership with the Muscat Overseas Group.
Through the joint venture, Al Najah Education plans to launch the ‘Horizon’ brand in Muscat by opening a British curriculum school.
Al Najah Education Chairman Shailesh Dash said: “This is a breakthrough moment for the company. The education sector in Oman offers exciting opportunities and we are delighted to promote the ‘Horizon’ brand in Muscat. With favorable government regulations for international investors and relentless support from education authorities, we are confident that we will be able to create an independent school that benefits the students, parents and the society.”
Muscat Overseas Group will be the infrastructure provider overlooking the building construction while Al Najah Education will be the academic service provider operating the school.
In recent years, Oman has actively pursued economic development through diversification, industrialisation and privatisation. To keep pace with technological advancements and to achieve international competitiveness, the government has increased emphasis on education and human resource development.
In the 2012 budget, the estimated expenditure on education sector amounted to 13% of the total public expenditure.
“Oman education sector provides us the platform to demonstrate our regional expertise and bring forth world class educational facilities through the new school. We propose to build a British curriculum school offering over 1,350 places from FS1 to Grade 13. We plan to open the school for September 2015 intake, pending government approvals,” said Nrupaditya Singdeo - Director, Al Najah Education.
