Zakat Fund allocates Dhs4.6m for scholarships

ABU DHABI: The Zakat Fund has allocated Dhs4,680,782 to fund the scholarships of the eighth batch of 31 students who qualified for university scholarships under the “My Lord, Increase Me in Knowledge” project.

Abdullah Bin Aqueeda Al Muhairi, Secretary-General of the Zakat Fund, stated that the project will cover the expenses of university students who received their scholarships through their process of obtaining university scholarships, from the start of their university course until their graduation. The project is part of a series of projects to support the underprivileged, which was launched in 2010, he added.

He also stressed that education is the ideal investment in the future as it is the foundation of development, which will be reflected in the future prosperity and development of local communities.

He added that assisting students in continuing their higher education is one of the fund’s major priorities.

During his meeting with the university students and their families at the fund’s headquarters, Al Muhairi stressed that the emphasis on local universities is considered the best type of support to the nation’s academic institutions, and a way of reuniting students with their families, for a period of a week, while living in their university campus.

The plan will also contribute to the co-ordination between the families and the Zakat Fund, to overcome the challenges in supporting the students’ education, he further added.
