Sharjah to hold 2-day meet on learning difficulties
SHARJAH: The first-ever conference to discuss learning difficulties among the children and adults will be held in Sharjah this week.
Announcing the details of the conference, Hanadi Al Suwaidi, Director of the Sharjah Centre for Learning Difficulties, said that the first Learning Difficulties Conference, which will be held under the theme “For a Better Learning,” will be held on Oct.4 – 5 at Al Qasimia University, Sharjah, and under the sponsorship of His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.
Al Suwaidi said that the speakers will discuss nine working papers that address a variety of issues concerning learning difficulties. A group of experts and specialists in learning difficulties from the UAE, KSA, India, USA and others will participate.
She pointed out that the conference, which is organised in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Social Development, targets mainly teachers in public schools. The conference will help them discover and develop the skills of students with learning difficulties. This corresponds to the United Arab Emirates’ strategy in focusing on offering a decent and comprehensive education to students.
In an experience that is the first of its kind in the UAE, Al Suwaidi revealed the project of simulating learning difficulties in the conference. Participants can simulate six types of learning difficulties in order to learn how students receive and process data inside classrooms.
The conference will include five specialised workshops in a number of areas. Each one will address a different type of problem concerning learning difficulties. It aims to raise teachers and professionals’ awareness, inform participants about the latest experiences, and teach them how to develop skills of students with learning difficulties.
According to Ms Hanadi Al Suwaidi, Director of the Centre, the conference aims at highlighting learning difficulties and related issues; showing the latest experiences, success stories, and scientific researches in this field. It also aims at raising workers’ awareness, refining their skills, and establishing real partnerships with families and parents.
