Law issued on Hamdan Bin Mohammad University

Dubai: His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister, in his capacity as the Ruler of Dubai, has issued law No 9 of 2014, amending some provisions of Law No 13 of 2009 regarding the establishment of the Hamdan Bin Mohammad e-University.

The name of the university has been changed to Hamdan Bin Mohammad Smart University. The law also amends the jurisdictions and duties of the Supreme Chairperson of the university, its board of governors and chairman in line with the best practices of global academic institutes.

The law is also in line with the directives of Shaikh Mohammad to transform Dubai into a smart city to keep abreast with rapid development in the field of e-education, which relies primarily on smart learning and various applications to deliver quality educational services.

As per the law, teaching staff at the university will have a system that regulates their rights and vocational commitments. This will help the university attract distinguished and qualified candidates with experience in the field of e-education and smart learning.

Lt Gen Dahi Khalfan Tamim, Deputy Chairman of Police and General Security Chairman of the university’s Board of Governors, stressed that the updating the law for setting up the university comes in response to the directives of Shaikh Mohammad to transform the federal and local government into models for smart government, and the initiative he launched to transform Dubai into a smart city. He also stressed the importance of reviewing the previous law to allow the university to provide outstanding e-education programmes and applications to students and institutions.
